The SS Leopoldville. You’ll hear a story that was hidden for decades. During WWII the Belgian ocean liner SS Leopoldville was repurposed as a troop transport. Christmas Eve 1944 the Leopoldville was hastily loaded with 2000 U.S. Army infantrymen to cross the English Channel to Cherbroug, France to provide replacements at the Battle of Bulge. It was hit by a German submarine torpedo. WWII Veteran George Reitmeier shares his story of surviving the sinking of the Leopoldville.
