WWII Veteran Frank DeVita joined the Coast Guard to serve our country. He ended up as a ramp operator on a Higgins Boat landing craft on the first wave of soldiers landing at Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day. Frank made 11 or 12 trips back and forth from his ship to the beach on June 6, 1944. He never talked about the war until 1977. His children had no idea of his service until then. I had the great honor to accompany Frank and three other D-Day Veterans to Normandy in 2016. Frank’s story is absolutely riveting. You won’t want to miss it.
