Alan English was drafted into the Army in 1966. He attended Officer’s Training School and eventually trained to become a helicopter pilot. March of 1969 English arrived in Vietnam for a twelve month deployment. He initially flew utility missions. English then requested to fly gun ships so that he could shoot back. English notes that the discipline he learned in the Army helped set him up for success in his life.
