Merchant Marine Wade Bennett discusses the long history of the Merchant Marines. Bennett notes that the Merchant Marines lost 733 ships in WWII and had the highest mortality rate of any branch of service in WWII. Bennett also cautions us that the number of ships currently in our Merchant Marines is dangerously low.
