Lucas Hecker was born near Buffalo Park, Kansas 100 years ago. Hecker shares stories of growing up on the plains of Western Kansas, living through the Great Depression and Dust Bowl, and serving in the Merchant Marines during WWII. Hecker explains that the Merchant Marines transported trucks, ammunition, caterpillars, jeeps, and troops. Hecker describes a Kamikaze attack on a ship in his convoy and also discusses the propaganda of Tokyo Rose.
